Minutes of the Meeting of July 25, 2007

 

   The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM by Vice President Boschok. The flag salute and reading of the meeting purpose followed. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as corrected: Michael Cummins, IAM 751 A was sworn in as a delegate at the previous meeting. Don Shove, IAM 751A requested to be listed as excused. The chair asked Leonard Kelley, IBT 231 to serve in the Vice Presidentıs chair.

 

GUESTS

 

   Al Aldrich, Strategies 360 Consultant to the Regional Transportation Improvement District ballot proposal, explained the process, the ballot procedures and area of balloting, as well as the projects being recommended in the upcoming RTID proposal that goes to the ballot in November.

 

EXECUTIVE BOARD

 

  Secretary-Treasurer Sells reported that the Executive Board met on July 20th to screen five candidates: Jean Berkey, Candidate for County Council, Pos. 2; Marko Liias, Candidate for possible 21st District Legislative seat opening; Strom Peterson, Candidate for Edmonds City Council, Pos. 7; Stephanie Wright, Candidate for Lynnwood City Council, Pos. 5 and Kimberly Cole, Candidate for Public Hospital District Commissioner, Dist. 2, Pos. 3. Recommendations were made to endorse Strom Peterson, Stephanie Wright and Kimberly Cole.

   M/S/C to endorse Strom Peterson for Edmonds City Council, Pos. 7

   M/S/C to endorse Stephanie Wright for Lynnwood City Council, Pos. 5

   M/S/C to endorse Kimberly Cole for Public Hospital Commissioner, Dist. 2, Pos. 3

 

  Secretary-Treasurer Sells noted there would be a Labor/Neighbor Event on Saturday August 11th from 10 to 2, with a pre-meeting starting at 9 AM. Delegates were solicited to participate. It will be at the Everett Labor Temple, 2812 Lombard. A sign up sheet was passed around.

 

REPORTS OF COMMITTEES

 

Community Services--Suzanne Moreau of the Puget Sound Labor Agency reported for  Committee Chair Chris Glenn, SPEEA. She noted that the Turkey Fry event with Representative John Lovick was a success. She also gave her Labor Agency report. Doug Scott, LIUNA 292, has been appointed the Labor Chair for the United Way campaign this year. She is working on an August 28th United Way Labor meeting. The United Wayıs Volunteer Appreciation Night on August 13, She also mentioned the 4th Annual Washington State Labor Council Golf Tournament, the September 3rd Labor Day celebration and the 11th Annual Spirit of Snohomish County breakfast on September 12th. The United Way Days of Caring are September 28th and 29th.

 

REPORTS OF UNIONS

 

Organizing

 

  Leonard Kelley, IBT 231 reported on organizing at Advanced H2O in Skagit County. He noted that the election at Durham had been lost by six votes.

 

Contract Negotiations

 

   Geoffrey Crofoot, IFPTE 17 reported on pre contract meetings with the Snohomish County Health District. There is a large concern over health care costs.

   Bob Rommel, SPEEA, reported on the ratification of a contract at Triumph.

 

Other Local Activities

 

   Mark Moshay, SPEEA, encouraged delegates to be involved in their local communities National Night Out Against Crime. SPEEA is a sponsor of the activities at the South Everett Center, 6315 Fleming St, Suite B in Everett

 

GOOD OF THE ORDER

 

   Jackie Minchew, EEA/UTE, gave an update on his campaign for Everett City Council, Pos. 7. He has been out doorbelling.
