Minutes of the Meeting of November 16, 2005

 

            The meeting was called to order at 6:05 PM by President Chapman followed by the Flag salute. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as typed and handed out.

 

Communications

 

The following communications were read:

  • 11/10/05 William Wickline, Business Manager, IATSE 15, request to put the Everett Events Center on the We Do Not Patronize list. Referred to Executive Board/Grievance Committee for recommendation. Bill Wickline spoke to the issues involved with the Events Center.
  • 11/15/05 David Simpson e mail thanking Council for support in Charter Review election

 

Executive Board and Staff Report

 

            The Board recommended support of the Mukilteo School levies and bonds which will be on the ballot in February, 2006. It was M/S/C to concur.

            Secretary-Treasurer Sells noted they had met with another Superior Court candidate. He also let delegates know his meeting schedule for the last couple of months was available for their viewing.

 

Committees

 

Community Services:  Don Shove, IAM 751A, reported on the upcoming Holiday Party on December 14.

 

Organizing Committee:  Tammi Brady, IBT 38, reported on the Wal Mart movie to be shown at the Teamsters Hall on Nov. 17th. Toni Bohan, SEIU 925 wanted to know if a 35 mm copy of the movie was available so they could show it in a theatre in Stanwood.

 

Reports of Unions

 

Organizing Report: Bill Wickline, IATSE 15, reported on the successful organizing at 5 operations in Western Washington, and they have negotiated an agreement with the Seattle Art Museum. They also have a new agreement with the Auburn Performing Arts Center through the Auburn School District.

 

Contract Negotiations: Bob Rommel, SPEEA 2001, reported that they had a final offer from Boeing that would be recommended to the members. It is a 3 year agreement with raises of 71/2% in the first year and 41/2% in each of the next two years of the agreement for engineers. Techs will receive 51/2% in the first year. They have made some employee incentive plan changes. The retirement is the same as the IAM, and there are no increases in the medical and dental or benefit cuts.

 

Other Local Activities: Toni Bohan, SEIU 925, expressed their concerns with Everett School District’s resistance to bargaining unit consolidation, and implementation for maintenance building improvements at the Everett Housing Authority.

 

Puget Sound Labor Agency: Suzanne Moreau spoke about the upcoming Holiday raffle for the PSLA. She encouraged unions to use Creative Printing as they had donated the raffle tickets. She encouraged help with the food barrels, and discussed an upcoming United Way luncheon for labor. She also asked support for the Snohomish County Meth Summit which involves over 2,000 youth.

 

New Business

 

            Nominations were opened for 2006 officer elections. The following nominations were made:

President: Darrell Chapman, IBEW 191

Trustee 1: Toni Bohan, SEIU 925

Trustee 3: Peg Chrisman, IBEW 77

Trustee 5: Leonard Kelley, IBT 38

            Nominations will also be open at the December meeting.

 

Announcements

 

            Secretary Treasurer Sells noted that 90% of our endorsed candidates were successful.

 

Good of the Order

            Dave Kurtz, AFSCME 1811PA thanked the Council for its support of his candidacy for appointment to a Superior Court Judgeship.

            Chris Glenn, SPEEA2001 thanked the Council for support of his candidacies.
